Mendoza

“Every thing is better in Argentina!” This is what I was thinking after I finished my first 500 gram (1.1 lbs) bife de chirizo and bottle of Malbec.  I just got to Mendoza and it was 1 am at night the beginning of Holy week.  Where else in the world can you walk into a crowded restaurant at 12:30 am on a Tuesday and get a 10 USD steak.  I love Mendoza.

I still think about this steak. It was 500 grams of pure perfection.

Mendoza reminds me a lot of Napa valley.  The city is filled with cafes, shops and parks.  Santiago is a few hours away from Mendoza but there is a world of difference in lifestyle between the two.

It’s the Tuesday before Easter.  I have a hunch some thing is going down this Friday.

There are two beautiful parks in Mendoza.  This one is at the end of the pedestrian walk.

Most of the Wine in Argentina comes from Mendoza.

For 7 bucks you can rent a bike and visit the wineries in the Maipo region.  It’s a great time.

The Bus

Frank Fassi never saw this type of land transportation.  I probably wouldn’t have been whining about bus travel if all the buses in South America were like the ones in Argentina.  Bus travel is organized, well designed and even topped off with a little whiskey or champagne after dinner.  Didn’t I say everything was better in Argentina.
