Guilian

Guilian is said to be one of the most beautiful places in China. The Karst mountains are impressive but the city leaves a bit to be desired. The After the night train from Guangzhou I was greeted by four touts trying to get me to stay at their hotel. Tired I broke down and surprisingly got a nice place at a great price.

Guilian was developed much more than I had anticipated. The mountains that surround the city are still very impressive.

When in China do as the Chinese. There was a raft service that would take you across the river. However, the raft operator wanted some obscene amount of money for the ride (21 yuan). Luckily, I noticed hordes of locals crossing at a shallow part of the river. FYI it’s a LOT more slippery than you would think.

The Li river… You can still find a respite from the city.

I like this use of rocks. This is in the “five star” park.

I LOVED the street food in Guilian. They deep fry the skewers and you season them to taste! I hate to admit it but i went back three times.
