After the Hike the German, the English couple and I decided to stay at Hostel Mama Hilda. The promise of a hot shower was one of the major selling points, in addition it was the first hostel we saw after the hike. It was probably one of the nicest “hostels” I stayed at. The place had the feel of a mountain cabin and was clean and warm.
Mama Hilda Hostel, Great food but no hot water
Native Dancers that came by after dinner.
The hot shower is one of the great modern convenience´s that we take for granted. You never really miss it untill you haven´t had one for a while. I realized that I hadn´t had a hot hot shower since I left San Francisco six days before. In Quito the water never really got above luke warm and wasn´t much more of a trickle out of the faucet. In Quilotoa there was no running water. Regardless, the old man assured all of us that there was “agua caliente” available. Surprise surprise, when i turned on the faucet there was a powerful stream of freezing water. The kind of water that stings when it touches your skin. My faith in humanity was crushed and I no longer trust anyone in South America when they tell you that they have hot water.
The next day it was back to Latacunga on a Milk truck.
Milk Float… Okay it was a propane delivery truck. Still provided great views of the valley.

I love that picture you took of the view of the Virgin of Quito… it looks really cool. And thank you for putting that red oval around you in that picture… because I totally would not have been able to find you, haha, just kidding. And I like Mula the Mule, it’s a very creative name.
