Back to Laos- Vang Vieng, Phonsavan and the Plain of Jars

After nearly a two month haitus in Hawaii it was back to South East Asia.  I would fly back through Narita, then to Bangkok and finally back to Vientiane Laos.  After a day in Vientiane and dropping off a bag of stuff that Tu’s family sent back for him, I headed North to Vang Vieng.  Somehow Tu convinced me have one of his friends to act as my guide through Laos.  So I headed north with Jing Tong to Vang Vieng.

Victory Gate!  I dont quite know who the victory was over…

Vang Vieng

Vang Vieng is a lack luster town but it has a river where people go Kayaking and tubing.  Its basically a tourist town but so much nicer than Vientiane. Although, I did hear that the movie Air America was shot in Vang Vieng.

I believe this is the air strip in Air America the movie.  It also acts as the bus stop.

The island next to the river is connected by these wood & bamboo cat walks… Really cool!

The river is nice to cool off in.

Phosovan

Phosovan is a town about 7 hours east of Luang Prabang.  Its a small town that was bombed extensively during the Vietnam and Secret war in the 70’s.  There are literally, tons of unexploaded bombs in the areas.

They use the deactivated bombs as “decoration”

Plain of Jars

Out side of Phosovan are the Plain of Jars.  These large stone jars are scattered around the outlying areas of Phosovan.  There are 3 main sites that are easily accessible by motor bike but they say there are 90 lesser sites all over the place.
