Boca Boca Boca

One of the Highlights of visiting Buenos Aries was seeing a Boca juniors football match.  Argentineans are passionate about their football and I can honestly say there is no sporting experience quite like going to a game in Argentinean.  We were going to see Boca vs. Velez at Velez.  The day before me and another American went to the Boca stadium to buy tickets.  To avoid major conflicts at the games only fans of the team are allowed to buy tickets for the game.  So I was forced to buy tickets through a tour.  It was 100 pesos to go with the tour while the ticket originally cost 14 pesos. Before leaving for the game we were instructed to bring no more than 20 pesos ($7), to take off our watches, to leave all valuables at the Hostel and under no circumstances were we to cheer for the Boca Juniors.

Right before the game starts everyone releases these balloons.  Everyone is chanting and jumping up and down.

Babes of Velez.

The water canon is so underused these days.

You don’t want to be a Boca Juniors fan in the Velez section after the game.

You also don’t want to be a car with a Boca Juniors sticker in the Velez parking lot after the game.  Every body panel was kicked and dented, all four tires slashed and “VELEZ” keyed in the top of the hood.  The car required police protection or it would have gotten much much worse.
