Guangzhou

Although, some people consider Hong Kong a part of China it really is not. I’d leave Hong Kong from the Kowloon side for “China” by train. Guangzhou formally known as Canton would be my first stop.  It was Sun Yat Sens, Mao Tse Tung and of course the home town of some of my chinese ancestors.  I had finally reached the motherland!

My first taste of China was arriving by train into Guangzhou. It was ridiculous. Literally thousands of people just sitting around waiting for their train. It kind of reminded me of a parking lot before a football game.

After a bit of difficulty getting directions I found these college students happy to practice their english with me. They helped me find a place to stay and even gave me reasonable directions to get there. I was told that there are more english speakers in China than there are in the United States. By my math that would mean at least 1 and 4 people speak english. I’m calling bull on that…

Me infront of the Sun Yat Sen Memorial hall. I felt kinda guilty wearing my communist tee shirt that I got in Laos so I wore my back pack on my chest.
